Who can become a WAIPA Member?
Art. III.1 of WAIPA Statutes states that "Membership of WAIPA shall be open to all agencies whose prime function is to promote any country or territory for investment. Other organizations that share the objectives of WAIPA as set out in Article II of the WAIPA Statute, may, upon application, become Associated Members".
Can Outward Investment Agencies (OIAs) become WAIPA Members?
Yes. WAIPA aims at building a forum which brings together
all investment promotion practitioners. Outward Investment
Agencies are the natural partners of IPAs and operate in very
similar ways, therefore they can benefit from WAIPA services
and from networking with IPAs.
Can Free Zones and Industrial Parks become WAIPA Members?
Yes. Free Zones and Industrial Parks are promoting FDI into
a specific territory and therefore fall in the definition
of Art. III.1. of the WAIPA Statutes.
Can Chambers of Commerce become WAIPA Members?
Yes. As far as a Chamber of Commerce has competences in the
promotion of investment is welcome to join WAIPA.
Can a private corporation become a WAIPA Member?
Yes. As IPAs can take a big variety of legal forms and have
different sources of funding, WAIPA Membership does not require
that the applicant is a public entity. Application for membership
does not involve an examination of the IPA legal status.
Can several agencies
from the same country become WAIPA Members?
Yes. The territorial administration in every country has its
particularities and this is reflected in the organization
of the investment promotion. Also, the number of subnational
and city IPAs is on the rise. WAIPA welcomes national, regional,
provincial and city IPAs alike. However, it will be required
that the IPA's territory of competence is well-defined and
does not conflict with another member's.
Can consulting companies become members of WAIPA?
No. WAIPA is a forum strictly for IPAs. However, WAIPA works
closely with a number of international consultants and is
open to different types of partnership and sponsorship with
the private sector.
How do I apply for membership?
All you need to go to the "Apply for Membership" section and
fill in the form on line. The submission of this form is not
an application for membership, but an expression of your interest
in WAIPA. The WAIPA Secretariat will contact you with further
details and an application form to be signed by the CEO of
your IPA.
Fees
Are there any fees involved in the WAIPA
membership?
Yes. WAIPA Members pay a fee of 2,000 USD per year. This fee
enables to unlimited use of WAIPA Services without any further
payment for publications, workshops, Annual Conference, etc.
Is it possible to get a waiver from the membership fees?
No. Regardless of the status of your IPA and the economic
situation of the country of origin, there are no waivers from
the payment of the fee.
If my IPA becomes a Member late in the year, is there any
reduction in the annual fee?
No. There is no proportional reduction in the fee amount depending
on the time of the application.
Services
Does WAIPA provide its Members
with investment opportunities?
No. WAIPA does not make match-making between corporations
and IPAs. Nevertheless, if an investor approaches WAIPA for
information on the IPA or the investment climate
in a given country, WAIPA will redirect his enquiry to the
IPA.
Can I benefit from WAIPA without being a member?
Yes. WAIPA has a broad circle of
friends and partners. The WAIPA NewsFlash is received by
over 2,000 investment promotion professionals, corporates,
international civil servants, consultants, academics,
researchers and students worldwide. The only thing you have
to do is register.
The WAIPA Annual Conference is also open to all those interested
in the world of investment promotion.
Training
How can I find out about the training
programme?
There are several ways of finding out about WAIPA's training
activities. For the latest updates check regularly the Activities
Section of this Website. Also, WAIPA regularly informs
about the forthcoming activities in the WAIPA NewsFlash
and Newsletter. IPAs in the region where a workshop is taking
place will receive an invitation addressed to their President
or CEO by e-mail, fax and mail aprox. 60 days before the
workshop.
How can WAIPA Members influence the training programme?
The WAIPA activities programme is designed on the basis
of the training demands expressed by the member IPAs. Members
can express their training needs by submitting suggestions
by e-mail to the WAIPA Secretariat any time during the year
or by approaching the members of the WAIPA Steering Committee
during the Annual Conference.
Who can attend the WAIPA workshops?
All professional staff from member IPAs. The management
of the IPA decides who will be participating. However, on
some occasions depending on the curriculum of a particular
workshop, WAIPA may restrict the participants to a specific
level and job function. On special ocassion where the IPA
is unabl to participate, they may wish to nominate participants
from other institutions.
Are there any fees involved for workshop participants?
No. The only fee WAIPA members pay is the annual contribution.
This fee entitles to attend an unlimited number of workshops.
What are the costs involved for workshop participants?
Workshop participants are expected to cover their own travel
and living expenses.
Does WAIPA provide funding for workshop participants?
No. WAIPA does not provide any financial support to workshop
participants.
Who can host a WAIPA workshop?
Only WAIPA Members can host workshops or other activities.

Annual Conference
Who can attend the Annual Conference?
You don't have to be a WAIPA Member or even an IPA to attend
the Annual Conference. This event brings together private
business, the academia, representatives of international
organizations, international experts, consultants, diplomats
and especially investment promotion officials.
Are there any delegate fees involved?
Yes. Those delegates, that are not investment promotion
officials from IPAs must pay a modest Conference fee.
What is the profile of the participants of the WAIPA
Conference?
Out of nearly 300 delegates a third are heads of IPAs. The
rest come from the private sector, the academia, international
organizations and international consultancy firms. You can
