Pre- and Post-Conference Education Courses

Pre-Conference Course: Real Estate Development and Reuse
September 14-15

In this course, participants will be introduced to the land development process, with an emphasis on the economic developers? role. Typically, the economic developer is the one that works to balance the dynamic between the profit orientation of the private developer and the public objective to be met by the real estate project

This course fulfills one of the four required core courses towards eligibility for the Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) exam application.


Post-Conference Advanced Course: Mixed-Use Real Estate Financing
September 21-22

Mixed-use development provides opportunities for economic development practitioners to participate in projects that can incorporate housing, small retail businesses, commercial space and other uses. This course explores the analysis and financing of mixed-use projects from both lender and developer perspectives.

It is designed for professionals with a minimum of two years experience in economic, housing or community development with a background in financing/loan structuring and for practitioners who are interested in pursuing mixed-use development projects within their communities.

This course fulfills three credits towards Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) Recertification.

This tour will give participants an insider?s look into the development of Times Square.

Preserving Manufacturing and Industrial Sectors
This tour will explore mixed use manufacturing and industrial areas with growing segments of commercial and residential.

Learn the types of developments that bring economic prosperity to a community from new retail development.

Business Improvement District Best Practices
This seminar covers best practices for planning, organizing, and financing BIDs, the services they provide, and how they are operated and managed.
