The thirteenth session of the WAIPA World Investment Conference which took place in Accra, Ghana, on 18-21 April 2008 gathered more than 200 delegates coming from 75 countries. The WIC was a part of the World Investment Forum (April 19-22), sponsored by UNCTAD and WAIPA. The Forum was attended by a large number of Heads of States/Governments, ministers as well as representatives from the corporate world and civil society. It was followed by UNCTAD XII Conference (April 20-25). The theme of UNCTAD XII was “Addressing the Opportunities and Challenges of Globalization for Development”.
The meeting attracted numerous representatives of IPAs, but also representatives of the private sector as well as officials of international and multilateral organisations, NGOs and academia. WAIPA Regional Meetings were held on the first day of the conference as well as four workshops on the following topics:
- Promoting a better product: Improving your country’s investment climate - Lessons of experience;
- Economic development in a Rubrik’s cube world: Megatrends, business innovations and turning global trends into local prosperity;
- IPA Best practice performance workshop;
- Marchés émergents: Vers une incontournable d’investissement.
The Gala Dinner, held on 18 April at the Accra International Conference Centre, in Accra, was generously sponsored by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC). The guests appreciated traditional food and dances during the dinner.
